About the position

The Senior Maintenance Technician – Electrical is a key leadership position within the steel mill environment, responsible for performing and overseeing advanced electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex industrial systems and equipment. This role focuses heavily on electrical systems, including high- and low-voltage equipment, motors, controls, power distribution, and automation components, while also possessing a solid understanding of mechanical systems. Operating with minimal supervision, the Senior Technician will lead by example—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance practices. A vital part of this role is the ability to mentor and support junior technicians, providing hands-on guidance, fostering a positive and productive work environment, and encouraging continuous learning and improvement. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, extensive knowledge of electrical systems in an industrial setting, and the ability to take initiative on complex projects, preventive maintenance strategies, and emergency repairs. The Senior Maintenance Technician is instrumental in maintaining system reliability and uptime across critical mill operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee advanced electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex industrial systems and equipment.
  • Lead by example to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance practices.
  • Mentor and support junior technicians, providing hands-on guidance.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Diagnose complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Maintain system reliability and uptime across critical mill operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical/electrical engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or facilities maintenance, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and components.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and ensuring equipment reliability.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience mentoring or supervising junior technicians.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, including OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in industrial maintenance, HVAC, or mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), PLCs, or industrial control systems.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, industrial, or large-scale facilities maintenance environment.
  • Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and managing resources for maintenance projects.
