The instructor will facilitate student learning to achieve program and course objectives. The instructor will organize all aspects of the learning environment to include delivery of material, cleanliness, safety, and effective lab/lecture. The instructor will deliver the approved curriculum for the program.

  • Motivate students by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, sensitivity for their concerns.
  • Actively involve students in classroom discussions and/or activities.
  • Identify different student learning styles and adjust accordingly.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Manage tools assigned to the classroom, lab, and LMS/Canvas environment.
  • Integrate features of LMS/Canvas into the learning environment.
  • Post a minimum of one announcement weekly in LMS/Canvas.
  • Post videos/tutorials as necessary in LMS/Canvas to increase student engagement.
  • Provide qualitative, holistic feedback to support the assigned grade.
  • Respond to all initial threaded discussion posts in LMS/Canvas within 24-36 hours.
  • Extend discussions with follow-up questions or additional content.
  • Conduct minimum live online virtual session weekly for didactic portion.
  • Respond to all student emails/communications within 24-36 hours.
  • Check course Q and A in LMS/Canvas and respond to all posts within 24-36 hours.
  • Identify struggling students and offer assistance.
  • Contact any student at least weekly that did not attend their scheduled course.
  • Communicate, support and enforce school policies and procedures.
  • Complete mid-module assessment form for each student.
  • Ensure an ethical and fair testing environment during periods of testing.
  • Constantly evaluate curriculum to ensure relevance.
  • Maintain a working field knowledge through continuing education.
  • Mandatory attendance at semi-annual graduation and mandatory faculty meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely record keeping as it applies to student grades and attendance.
  • Complete final grades as directed.
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 7 years of practical field experience within the past 10 years.
  • A minimum of a current industry-recognized certification, and/or a diploma/degree consisting of a minimum of 15 SCH (or equivalent) of postsecondary education in the field to be taught.
  • Must have been a Journeyman lineman for at least 7 years; Lead instructor have 10 years or more experience.
  • Must possess proof of completion of a lineman apprenticeship program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training Department.
  • Must have a CDL class A (unrestricted if vehicles are manual).
  • Must possess up to date First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
  • Must be pole top rescue qualified.
  • Must be able to operate power tools.
  • Must be able to operate a digger Derrick truck to set poles, drill anchors, load transformers, secure loads, pull a pole trailer.
  • Must have ability to read standards and prints.
  • Successfully pass DOT physicals and drug testing.
  • Must pass a background check and a medical screening.
