About The Position

The E&I Engineer will be responsible for the design, maintenance, and optimization of the plant's electrical and instrumentation systems. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial controls, power distribution, and process instrumentation, with a focus on ensuring plant safety, reliability, and efficiency. Additionally, the E&I Engineer will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the plant's industrial control systems. This includes a focus on the hardware and software related to PLCs, HMIs, DCS, & BPCS systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of troubleshooting complex issues, managing projects, and have a strong technical background in automation and control systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience as an E&I or Controls Engineer in a chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or other industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with PLC programming from major vendors (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and DCS systems (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell).
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level) and control loop tuning.
  • Familiarity with electrical power distribution systems (480V, 24V DC), VFDs, and motor control centers (MCCs).
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant safety standards.
  • Experience with SCADA and HMI platforms (ex. Wonderware, FactoryTalkView, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (ex. Modbus, TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, etc.)
  • Strong sense of ownership for assigned area and takes immediate action to correct issues as they arise.
  • Driven to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and design electrical and instrumentation systems for new projects and plant modifications, including power distribution systems, motor controls, and field instrumentation.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, ISA, NEC) and company specifications.
  • Provide technical support for complex issues related to plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Lead and execute E&I and Automation related capital projects from conception through commissioning, including scope development, budget management, scheduling, contractor management, commissioning, & validation.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies for E&I equipment to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Analyze equipment failures to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide support for all OT systems, including diagnosing and resolving issues with PLCs, VFDs, and other automated equipment.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades of aging control systems, field instruments, and electrical components.
  • Manage the lifecycle of control system hardware and software, instruments and electrical components, including planning and executing system upgrades, migrations, and new technology integrations.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety protocols and regulations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for plant safety systems and hazardous area classifications.
  • Implement and enforce cybersecurity best practices within the OT environment, including managing access controls, system patching, and monitoring for security threats.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all electrical schematics, instrument datasheets, control narratives, network diagrams, system architecture drawings, and SOP’s.
