About The Position

NANA Worley is accepting applications for multiple positions at varying classifications from Entry-level to Principal Electrical Designers dependent on experience and competencies. The Electrical Designer position applies engineering principles to design, modify or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment, or processes used in processing or manufacturing products in a multi-discipline engineering and design team. This is a full time, non-rotational position located at NANA Worley headquarters in Anchorage, AK This position is eligible for the NANA Worley employee referral program, available only to current NANA Worley employees

Requirements

  • The following describes the education and experience typically required to develop the competencies for each classification level; competencies may be demonstrated with other combinations of education, training, experience, and achievements:
  • Designer 4-10 years of work experience, with oil and gas industry experienced preferred.
  • Senior Designer 8-15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Staff Designer 15+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry; or Associate degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or related degree from an accredited institution and 10+ years of experience.
  • Senior Staff Designer 17+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry; or Associate degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or related degree from an accredited institution and 15+ years of experience.
  • Principal Designer 20+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry; or 15+ years of experience with significant Lead Designer role.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Math skills sufficient to: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent. Draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and current versions of AutoCAD design software.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicable Arctic/cold weather experience.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in high voltage power lines design and/or ETAP.
  • 3-D modeling experience

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and applies codes, procedures, standards, and specifications to accurately and efficiently produce designs which conform to applicable codes and specifications.
  • Interprets complex vendor data or drawings for conformance with project requirements and initiates resolution of any problems.
  • Accurately develops material takeoffs and estimates.
  • Proficiently operates various AutoCAD systems.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform design tasks.
  • Consistently demonstrates example skills in structuring assigned activities, creativity, teamwork, handling a client’s changing needs, communications, operational efficiencies, decision making, and analyzing and solving problems.
  • Inspects equipment for conformance with design specifications.
  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning and other technical and economic factors.
  • Provides information to those in field construction.
  • Provides accurate technical advice and training to others.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
  • Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technical changes and developments in industry.
  • Design experience, which includes work connected with arctic electrical installations, NEC, motors, motor controls, and third party certifications.
  • Checks various designs, diagrams, drawings, etc. for compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Designs fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment.
  • Designs applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial use.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
