About The Position

The City of West Bend is seeking a dedicated and experienced Electrical Inspector to join our team on a full-time basis. This position is crucial for ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards within the community. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of inspections and enforcement duties, including but not limited to U.D.C. inspections for electrical systems, carpentry, masonry, heating, air conditioning, and insulation. The role also encompasses miscellaneous inspections for roofing, sheds, decks, and commercial inspections, as well as reviewing plans for construction and plumbing projects. The Electrical Inspector will determine compliance with appropriate code requirements, issue orders to correct code violations, and issue building permits while calculating permit fees and completing required reports. In addition to inspection duties, the Electrical Inspector will provide technical information and assistance to contractors, developers, and the general public. This includes advising and answering code-related questions both over the telephone and at the service counter. The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing plans for construction projects, issuing building permits, and attending meetings, seminars, and continuing education programs. The Electrical Inspector will assist the Superintendent of Building Inspection in presenting code-related seminars, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed about current regulations and standards. To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a Master Electrician Certification or a Journeyman Electrician certification with a Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification. Additional required inspection certifications, such as UDC Plumbing Inspector, UDC Building and HVAC Inspector, and Commercial Building Inspector, will need to be obtained upon hiring. A valid Wisconsin driver's license is also required. The position demands a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to operate various tools and equipment, including an automobile, two-way radio, electric meter, and more. The Electrical Inspector must be capable of performing on-site inspections, which may involve climbing, bending, and reaching, and must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret various technical documents.
