About The Position

The Electrical Harness Designer is responsible for leading the application of a cohesive harness strategy across our portfolios that maximize reuse, flexibility, standard design guidelines and ease of manufacturing.   This role will require working with our supply base to choose components of high quality and cost effectiveness.   A main goal of this position is to accelerate our harness deliveries for our new product development efforts.  This individual will be a key contributor in growing our business by balancing risk and reward using advanced engineering and project management tools.  This position offers the opportunity to follow your work from concept to production and will require you to apply both analytical and hands-on skills.    In this Engineering roll, individuals will have the authority, support, and autonomy to execute the vision as well as establishing themselves as high-respected leaders.   The position offers the opportunity to be the expert harness designer and work on a variety of growth initiatives in the electric vehicle space.  The position requires the technical expertise to identify high quality harness partners, supplier assessments and continuous improvement initiatives, drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues, interpret technical agency standards, and lead projects in accordance with engineering excellence.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree Preferred, 5ys experience desired.
  • 3D- CAD Creo Parametric, Creo Cabling, Creo schematics
  • Capital Schematic and Harness
  • Manufacturing and Assembly Support
  • Monitor manufacturing performance (MDI, Observation, …) during early proto builds, MAB, and MVB and ensure findings are corrected
  • Establish process for early engineering builds to ensure manufacturing involvement
  • Warranty Review
  • Monitor Warranty data and develop analytics to generate reports required to drive continuous improvement
  • Monitor supplier performance data to identify potential continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in Supplier visits as needed.

  • Mentor other electrical designers on proper harness design and drawing best practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop electric vehicle schematics and implement in Creo Schematic and Capital Harness.
  • Develop, communicate, and implement strategy for connector management to ensure maximum re-use and commonality across product lines.
  • Develop, communicate, and implement component management strategy (fusing, relays, positioning devices ……)
  • Implement vehicle and product line architecture to ensure harness circuit optimization
  • Establish a robust process for cost analysis and work with sourcing to achieve best cost for all harnesses
  • Establish design review process to reference existing warranty or field enhancement data to inform new product design
  • Support all design reviews with harness manufacturer
  • Lead all Manufacturing reviews
  • Aid in the development and implementation of standard tools and processes that will increase the efficiency and accuracy of electrical harness documentation
  • Tailor your communication and leadership style for maximum effectiveness and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Drive culture of traceable test acceptance criteria using reliability and confidence in designs.
  • Prepare schedules and achieve scheduled milestones for assigned projects.
  • Proficient at identifying project/subsystem risks and developing/executing subsequent mitigation plans
  • Able to evaluate impact of solutions on other functions in the organization and/or the customer and make decisions accordingly
