About The Position

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking an Electrical Grid Resilience Engineer to join the to join the Advanced Modeling and Simulation Group to d evelop, implement, and validate Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) models for grid systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials, mechanical, chemical engineering, or related field with 7-9 years of relevant experience
  • MS + 6-8 yrs; PhD + 5-7 yrs of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced dynamic and transient analysis of power and energy systems.
  • Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) testing on Distributed Real-Time Simulation (DRTS) platforms to validate control strategies and system behaviors.
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of control algorithms for grid stability, fault ride-through, and operational resilience.
  • Designing and implementing systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conducting reliability analysis and upgrading power system equipment to enhance efficiency and resilience.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize power system performance and response to sudden fluctuations.
  • Integrating renewable energy sources into existing power grids and ensuring sustainable practices.
  • Ensuring and maintaining through analyses the integrity of electrical systems and ensuring a reliable power supply for various applications.
