About The Position

The Advanced Electrical Systems and Generic Instrumentation and Control Department 479 is in need of a Propulsion Plant Electrical Generic Instrumentation & Control Supervisor. The Supervisor will be responsible for the overall design, development, and integration of the Electric Plant Control Panel (EPCP) and Electric Plant Monitoring Device (EPMD) for Virginia Class Submarines. This supervisor will also oversee the development of Propulsion Turbine Throttle Control (PTTC) Generic Hardware development. The supervisor will lead a team of 7-9 engineers to develop and maintain Type II Generic EPCP/EPMD and Type III Generic development of PTTC. The supervisor will be responsible for the development of new software verification platform (SVP) lab equipment and maintain the existing SVP until the new equipment is ready for use. The supervisor will be responsible for establishing and executing a systems engineering approach including development of appropriate documentation. Responsibilities include: Coordinate EPCP development for Type II, working with others to ensure the hardware and software is completed Coordinate testing at the Bettis Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) Provide design yard support to construction engineering team Participate and drive the Integrated Product Team to be successful Support the development and modification of tech manuals that will be utilized by the fleet Initiate the development of the System Development Plan for PTTC, design and build the necessary prototypes, and deliver a qualified system for use onboard. Validate system technical requirements are satisfied while maintaining adherence to program cost and schedule requirements Ensuring strong integration with the other EB departments and outside organizations involved including NNL (Bettis and KAPL), BPMI, NAVSEA 08, and component suppliers. Support employee development and adherence to EB’s core values. Manage project costs and resources within budget while supporting program goals. Maintain commitment on-time performance rate above 90% while meeting first-time quality expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years previous engineering experience in control development (components or systems)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance through the Department of Defense
  • Must be highly motivated, work independently, and be willing to interact with other engineering disciplines and the design and operations communities.
  • Be capable of establishing and cultivating relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to adapt to emergent tasks and drive them to completion
  • Excellent oral and written communications

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Engineering
  • Concentration in control system design
  • Knowledge of software development
  • Detailed knowledge of submarine electric plant system operations
  • Experience in managing suppliers and/or developing components
  • Experience with COLUMBIA or VIRGINIA Class Submarine Electrical Power and control
  • Experience working in a successful multi-disciplined group to support a common goal/product
  • Previous management/leadership experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Government owned Generic Hardware and the processes used to develop Generic equipment
  • Experience with EVMS, ARTEMIS, and MS Project
