Discover how Consertus is driving transformative change for our clients, our people, and the communities we serve at www.consertus.com About this Role: Consertus has an immediate need for a Mid-Level Electrical Estimator to support the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) under Infrastructure Construction Estimating Support Services. This is a Full-time, exempt position with Eastern Time (ET) schedule and standard business hours. In addition, this position is fully remote. The Electrical Estimator will support the development of independent cost estimates for WMATA infrastructure and facilities projects. This role requires strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, cost estimating practices, and the ability to analyze project documents to develop accurate, defendable estimates.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience performing electrical cost estimating for construction projects. (Mid-level role; background should include several years of progressively responsible estimating experience.)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of construction cost estimating practices, including quantity takeoffs and development of estimate basis/assumptions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (entire suite), including strong spreadsheet skills for cost estimating and historical data collection.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • AACEi Certification, Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or equivalent.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates for: Electrical power distribution and building electrical systems Transit/rail infrastructure and related facilities Substations and substation-related equipment/construction
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards such as NEC and IEEE.
  • Familiarity with WMATA project delivery / project controls environments and use of owner-side project management systems (as applicable).
  • Experience working in a government/public agency environment, including coordination in union environments.

Responsibilities

  • Report to a designated Task Manager and support assigned estimating tasks and deliverables.
  • Prepare independent construction cost estimates for electrical scopes based on plans, specifications, and related contract documents.
  • Review and interpret project documentation and requirements to develop detailed estimate assumptions and quantity takeoffs.
  • Participate in estimate development activities including: Analyzing scope, quantities, and constructability considerations Validating pricing and aligning estimate detail to the project delivery phase Assisting with reconciliation discussions and estimate reviews
  • Support negotiation activities by helping evaluate pricing, scope alignment, and cost drivers.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and stakeholders to ensure estimates are complete, consistent, and well documented.
  • Assist with maintenance of historical cost data and estimating resources to support future estimates and benchmarking.
