About The Position

The Electrical Estimator 2 position involves preparing portions of contract proposal estimates for various disciplines. The role requires performing take-offs on systems, materials, and equipment according to applicable project plans and specifications. The estimator will prepare proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate, attend pre-bid meetings, and tour job sites to confirm requisite take-offs. The position also involves using estimating software such as FastPIPE, FastDUCT, or McCormick and/or ConEst (Intellibid) to calculate complete take-offs of the scope of work. The estimator will maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures and ensure the accuracy and applicability of data in final project files. Additionally, the estimator may review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials, and provide support to field operations regarding mechanical estimates.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with FastPIPE and/or FastDUCT or similar estimating software.
  • Working knowledge of multiple disciplines, estimating techniques, and cost control.
  • Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
  • Ability to perform detailed work and successfully meet deadlines.
  • High school degree or equivalent; some technical training or advanced education preferred.
  • At least 5 years estimating, controls, and/or engineering experience related to mechanical construction.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and/or tour job sites to confirm requisite take-offs.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete take-off of scope of work using estimating software.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures.
  • Perform estimating take-off for electrical items including switchgear, distribution, cable tray, UPS/PDU, emergency generators/ATS, and associated feeders.
  • Ensure accuracy and applicability of data in final project files.
  • Support other department personnel as required.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Provide support to field operations regarding mechanical estimates.
  • Implement pricing updates and version updates to FastEST.
  • Assist in the utilization of FastEST and collaborate with Training to facilitate training for others.
