Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Equipment Engineer to contribute to the development and improvement of new/existing electrical equipment for our advanced battery cell manufacturing processes. The Battery is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity to build a world-class manufacturing facility from the ground up. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of incredibly exciting products. The Electrical Equipment Engineer will also work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. This individual will work closely with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing), Quality and Process teams to bring the new product from initial design, through prototype development and finally into full production.

  • Will be responsible for startup, validation, improvement design of new/current electrical systems and electrical systems reliability
  • Set standards for electrical safety practices and LOTO procedures
  • Troubleshoot and help support electrical equipment including motors, AC Drives, PLC's, and other power distribution equipment
  • Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis on significant electrical failures and provide countermeasures
  • Lead safety and ergonomic improvements to production electrical equipment that meets or exceeds regulations or best practices
  • Perform equipment improvement designs, fabrications, installations, modifications, bidding/quoting, and collaborate with internal/external vendor organizations to iteratively design and install equipment improvements
  • Work with Controls Engineers and controls technicians to troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements
  • Will be creating detailed Maintenance instructions on how to perform complex and ambiguous repair work
  • Develop preventive maintenance procedure and a comprehensive spares list to maximize OEE of equipment
  • Manage Continuous improvement projects to drive equipment improvements based on key performance metrics such as OEE, MTTR, MTBF
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years direct experience or equivalent 15+ years work experience in plant electrical systems
  • Hands-on Electrical/Manufacturing Engineer working on motors/drives, solving electromechanical systems issues, and software systems in a high-speed manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated hands on experience in ramping electrical equipment into manufacturing - automation, motors, drives, electromechanical systems, and motion controls
  • Demonstrated experience with development of operating/Maintenance instructions
  • Proficiency in designing electrical equipment in a factory setting
  • Experience in creating/validating layouts and electrical schematics as needed
