About The Position

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Seattle City Light is hiring an Electrical Engineer Specialist, Senior to perform engineering duties for the Joint Use Wireline engineering team. This position reports to the Joint Use Wireline Supervisor. Here is more about what you'll be doing:

Requirements

  • Requires four years' electrical engineering experience, and an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or two years' college coursework in electrical engineering (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with power utility line design and construction
  • Field experience inspecting power poles.
  • Experience working with different government bodies on large projects.
  • Experience with public permitting processes.
  • Working knowledge of the NESC for overhead line construction.
  • Familiarity or experience with IKE4 and SPIDACALC/Studio
  • Experience managing projects related to electric utility distribution engineering design and construction.
  • Computer skills such as AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Windows, and WAMS
  • Ability to write clear, understandable and professional letters, memos and reports
  • Ability to give presentations to professional staff, management and government agencies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to shifting and multiple priorities
  • Ability to work as a team member in a diverse workforce.
  • Knowledge of SCL infrastructure, construction specification and work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate structural loading of power poles and lines using field measurements, hand calculations, and CAD modeling software.
  • Review poles for compliance with SCL standards and the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Review proposals for new electrical services and new communication lines and determine the type and size of installation for electrical service.
  • Prepare letters to customers with construction requirements, scope of work, estimates, etc.
  • Perform complex, detailed pencil, ink or CAD drafting and preparation of maps, plans, revisions, activating the work order numbers, schematics and drawings of the electrical features of distribution systems and services.
  • Prepare work orders and work instructions, specify construction standards and materials, and estimate hours and costs.
  • Review work submitted by consultants and contractors to make recommendations on its acceptability against scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with other departments, engineering and construction personnel, other government agencies, contractors, consultants, and the public to exchange information, coordinate work, answer questions and respond to complaints.
  • Training, technical oversight and occasional supervision of technical employees.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
