About The Position

Kidde’s Residential Fire Detection organization is searching for an Electrical Engineering Manager to join the design team located in Bradenton, FL and with some team members remotely located in Colorado. In this position, you will have responsibility to lead the Electrical Engineering function for new product development for residential solutions in North America. The manager should be comfortable leading a diverse team of electrical engineers to deliver life safety devices, which are low cost and low power, while maintaining Kidde’s high bar for reliability. These often have complex system interactions, and the candidate will be instrumental to working with other functions to ensure that the integrated system works as intended. They should be willing to improve the teams’ processes, or build new ones to ensure timely and reliable output. Primarily, the candidate is a people leader and developer. They will utilize their experience to assess individual team members’ strengths and weaknesses, putting them in a position to succeed while also growing in areas of need. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences from an ABET accredited college or unniversity
  • 5+ years of experience with electrical design in embedded systems.
  • 5+ years of experience as an engineering leader
  • Ability to work onsite at the Bradenton, FL office.
  • 10% travel availability to China, Mexico or supplier in the USA

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience as an electrical engineering leader, in fast paced development environments.
  • Proven track record of leveraging a team to deliver more than 2 projects at a time.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing and test processes for electrical designs.
  • Strong experience with development of wirelessly connected devices – bringing them up from conceptualization, design implementation, integration testing, and final verification.
  • Power supply design experience for AC and DC inputs.
  • Experience in EMC / EMI troubleshooting and problem solving techniques.
  • Experience designing and analyzing sensing systems comprised of optical components (LEDS, Photodiodes) and/or light scattering inference methods
  • Ability to design low power products capable of achieving very long life with non-replaceable batteries.
  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to apply them to electrical system design and verification
  • Skillfully and physically capable of using electrical engineering tools for debugging circuits and modifying surface mount assemblies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make decision and move quickly in a problem solving situation.

Responsibilities

  • Assign team members to new product development efforts for the North America market, on time and on budget.
  • Be part of projects core team as the Engineering representative and provide update on design progression, root cause analysis, creating and presenting action plans to mitigate project risks.
  • Ensure team is accurately defining the scope of work (or work breakdown) needed to accomplish the project, and then delivering to that agreed schedule.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to drive innovation and new technology within the team.
  • Facilitate internal engineering development processes, such as regular design reviews, technical data reviews, root cause analysis, and sample builds.
  • Ensure the system and sub-system performance through local sample builds and factory sample builds, followed by verification and validation test plans related to the electrical engineering domain. This includes the core electrical design, sensor performance, and RF performance.
  • Utilize Jira to track team tasks and test results.
  • Responsible to provide management with estimates on resource needs (people and capital).
  • Provide statistical evaluation to ensure sensors work as desired, and the performance in the field is controlled within the set KPI’s.
  • Provide support to Compliance team (planning, documentation, team travel to assist with hands on testing / troubleshooting).
  • Work with team to drive manufacturable solutions, in conjunction with the factories requirements.
  • Perform alternate component analysis, considering the circuit function in all modes of operation.
  • Lead the team on troubleshooting efforts
  • Provide insights to leadership for concept feasibility prior to the project initiation.
  • Professionally communicate with parties within and outside of the NPD EE department serving as a strong representative for the team and company.
  • Hold regular team meetings to keep team members informed and engaged on the team’s activities.
  • Facilitate cross collaboration and design reviews.
  • Identify goals for each team member which align to the business goals and provide a realistic path to be successful.
  • Drive team member growth, aligning their skills and weaknesses strategically.
  • Empower the team to make decisions, while providing oversight and processes to ensure these align with the businesses goals.
