About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead our talented team of engineers in the design and development of hardware for educational robotics products. You will play a crucial role in hardware architecture definition, ensuring project success through hands-on design, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an electrical engineering role.
  • Hands-on experience with FIRST® and its robotics programs.
  • Proven experience in PCB design and layout using Altium Designer.
  • Strong understanding of digital circuit design, DC power regulation, motor control (brushless and brushed), and embedded systems.
  • Proficient with standard electrical lab equipment, including high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and ESD test equipment.
  • Experience with hardware development lifecycles, from concept and prototyping to mass production.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between hardware, mechanical, software, and operations teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering management or lead role.
  • Basic experience with embedded C/C++ to assist in hardware-software architecture decisions and low-level bringup.
  • Direct experience managing the certification process for UL, CE, or FCC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers in the design and development of hardware for educational robotics.
  • Directly contribute to projects by performing PCB design and layout (Altium) for embedded systems, digital circuits, and motor control solutions.
  • Define hardware architecture, component selection, and roadmaps for products involving brushless/brushed motor control, DC power regulation, and sensor integration.
  • Oversee and communicate with external design partners for high-speed digital, wireless, and mobile products, as well as overseas contract manufacturers (CMs).
  • Occasionally meeting with CMs outside of normal business hours to accommodate time-zone differences.
  • Collaborate closely with the software team to drive embedded design, ensuring hardware maximizes microcontroller features and simplifies software implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with the mechanical team to ensure both mechanical and electrical requirements are balanced and met.
  • Collaborate with the operations, marketing, and customer success teams to develop standard operating procedures, contribute to customer-facing documentation, and allocate resources for tier 2 support when needed.
  • Lead hardware bringup efforts (initial testing of interfaces, power rails, specific features, etc.) and development of comprehensive validation plans for prototypes.
  • Implement DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Test) principles. Lead the development of factory test fixtures.
  • Develop and implement tight management of component libraries and bills of materials within our ERP system (Odoo).
  • Guide products through compliance processes (UL, CE, FCC) by working with internal teams and external testing labs.
  • Interface with the sourcing team and CMs to identify components and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Mentor and coach team members and interns, helping them develop their technical skills and careers through mentorship, constructive feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Other projects or responsibilities as the need arises.
