About The Position

BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and a Top 10 prime contractor to the Department of Defense, is hiring a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to lead development and production teams focused on Launching Systems products. In this position, you will be supporting the Ordnance Systems, Inc. (OSI) Business at our Radford, VA facility. We work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and our hybrid approach provides plenty of on-site collaboration and support for new staff onboarding as well as the flexibility for working remotely some days. As an Electrical Engineering Lead for Launching Systems, you will work under general direction of Program Management leading other engineers in the development of missile launching systems and missile canisters. The lead electrical engineer will ensure the thoroughness of the design, ensuring performance to schedule and cost requirements and managing staff assignments. To be successful as the Launching Systems Electrical Engineering Lead, you will need to have a strong working knowledge and demonstrated performance with launching systems products. In this role, you will help BAE Systems establish constructive relationships with US Department of Defense customers. In addition, you will: Provide technical and managerial briefing to internal and external customers that confidence and furthers the technical reputation of the organization. Deliver results on time and within cost limitations. Balance technical requirements to meet the customer(s) needs. Develop alternatives solutions that overcome roadblocks and risks. Identify and manage company IRAD activities that support company goals and strategic incentives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field and 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing new design solutions and supporting existing systems in production and in the field.
  • Demonstrated skills leading a technical staff.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to solve moderately complex technical problems.
  • Strong communications skills to effectively interact with senior management and the customer.
  • Ability to create project plans and manage overall work activities.
  • Ability to solve highly complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciple team environment.
  • Ability to create schematics, assembly drawings and parts lists.
  • Experience producing prototypes in a demanding cost and schedule environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating with US Naval fire control systems
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards
  • Knowledge of electronic test equipment and test techniques for digital and mixed technology products
  • Performance management, both technical and personnel management
  • Mk 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) Launch Control System product experience
  • Launch Control System experience in architecture development, electronics development, computer software configuration item (CSCI) development and integration with Combat System
  • Mk 70 Payload Delivery System (PDS), VLS Canisters, Adaptable Deck Launching System, Aegis Ashore, Mk 57 VLS and/or other missile launching system product experience
  • Experience in electrical design and development of electrical interfaces between missiles, VLS Canisters and VLS Launch Control System
