About The Position

Kairos Power is offering an exciting opportunity for students to join our Electrical Engineering team as an intern for Summer 2026. The internship provides a unique, hands-on experience, allowing you to contribute to design, implementation, and operation of control systems for our test reactor. In this role, you will contribute to the design of a test reactor for the development of the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled High-Temperature Reactor (KP-FHR). You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and provides support to aspects of measurement instrumentation and automated digital system process control.

Requirements

  • Current student enrolled and pursuing a B.S, M.S, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrated application of technical skills outside of classroom setting through laboratory, research, extracurricular projects, personal projects, or prior internship/work experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with control system software (LabVIEW, PLCs, etc.).
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Experience with control system analysis and design and control systems protocols is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office application (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Self-starter, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with cross-functional teams.
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others.
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge.

  • Experience with control system analysis and design and control systems protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of control systems for the test reactor.

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and documentation to support project needs.

  • Support various engineering tasks, including testing, validation, and prototyping.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, providing updates and contributing to discussions.
  • Maintain clear and organized records of all work performed.
