About The Position

The Electrical Engineering Intern will support the maintenance, engineering, and operations teams in improving mill reliability, electrical safety and equipment performance. This internship provides hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, working with power distribution systems, process controls and mill automation.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student in an accredited undergraduate or graduate academic program in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field and have completed one year of study.
  • Practical application training may require some out-of-state travel to various other Pratt Paper Mills or vendor facilities
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (glasses, earplugs, shoes, gloves, etc…)
  • Drug testing/Screening, Background Checks, and Physical exam
  • Recognition of safety hazards in immediate working area and eliminating/minimizing the hazard
  • Must be a strong and effective communicator
  • Capable of maintaining a professional attitude and demeanor
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills and willing to try new ideas for continuous improvement
  • Must be proficient in basic math skills
  • Basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits, motors, VFDs, PLCs and instrumentation concepts.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
  • Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Office and AutoCAD

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and technicians with troubleshooting electrical equipment such as motors, drives, MCCs, PLCs, transformers and switchgear.
  • Participate in preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, including inspections and vibration analysis.
  • Support the development and updating of electrical single-line diagrams, equipment lists and wiring schematics.
  • Assist with upgrades to process control equipment, instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Collect field data, perform equipment testing and document project progress.
  • Assist with troubleshooting process control issues to improve quality, safety and production efficiency.
  • Prepare technical reports, reliability findings and project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work, equipment history and project files.
  • Perform other tasks as required by Mill Management.
