About The Position

Electrical Engineering Interns support UPT’s research and development efforts under the supervision of a Lead Engineer and/or Project Manager. Interns contribute to the design, analysis, testing, and documentation of electrical systems and subsystems for defense, aerospace, and critical infrastructure applications. This role emphasizes hands-on R&D work in embedded systems, electronics, and hardware integration, with exposure to the full early-stage engineering lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply electrical engineering fundamentals to research and development problems
  • Hands-on aptitude and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing R&D environment
  • Strong teamwork and technical communication skills
  • Experience with schematic capture and basic circuit analysis tools
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word)
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Current student who has completed two or more years in an Electrical Engineering program at an ABET-accredited university

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience in embedded systems, electronics, or digital/analog circuit design
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., SPICE or similar)
  • Interest in experimental testing, test plan development, and data analysis
  • Interest in defense or aerospace electronics and ruggedized systems

Responsibilities

  • Support R&D engineers with electrical system design, analysis, testing, and documentation
  • Assist with schematic development, circuit analysis, and hardware integration
  • Support embedded systems development, including hardware/software interfaces
  • Participate in prototype assembly, laboratory testing, and data collection
  • Support test planning, execution, and analysis, including MIL-STD-level evaluations
  • Contribute to technical documentation and project planning activities
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineers on integrated R&D efforts
