About The Position

At the undergraduate level the emphasis is on recruitment, career exploration, and introducing top performing students to MDC.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
  • Undergraduate student at an accredited university/college in good standing.
  • Students who will be graduating before the internship begins are not eligible.
  • Develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
  • Remain in a stationary position 70% or more of the time.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Work outside in adverse weather conditions.
  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays when needed.
  • Ability to keep an accurate record of supplies, services and time reports.
  • Ability to bend and twist in use of force situations
  • Ability to regularly lift 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery.
  • Work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to navigate in a variety of environments including woodlands, steep terrain, wetlands, caves, and uneven terrain
  • Clarity of vision and ability to distinguish colors.

Nice To Haves

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on 4.0 scale is desirable.
  • Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 45 credit hours.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of diverse staff to implement ideas related to engineering activities at MDC
  • Shadow and assist with preparing and monitoring documents, plans, and report
  • Visiting construction sites for quality control and documentation
  • Researching building codes, MDC construction standards, and other regulations that might apply to assigned project
  • Knowledge to assist in preparing plans, technical engineering reports, cost estimates and other related engineering activities
  • Ability to communicate professionally.
  • Ability to use standard business software (spreadsheet and word processing) and knowledge of electrical design software (AutoCad, Revit, SKM or similar).
  • Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information, and develop solutions and solve problems.
  • Ability to maintain focus and intensity.
  • Ability to remain optimistic and persistent even under adversity.
  • Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to assist in the development of new insights into situations and apply innovative solutions that make improvements.
  • Ability to assist in making timely and effective decisions with available information or knowledge.
  • Ability to assist with establishment of comprehensive and realistic plans of action to accomplish activities and evaluate progress.
  • Other duties as assigned.
