About the position

Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Summer Intern - Electrical Engineer, based out of Billerica, MA. We are proud to be a trusted provider of advanced X-ray technologies for ports, borders, military, high-threat facilities and critical infrastructure all over the world. Be a part of our mission to provide our customers with best-in-class cargo and vehicle screening systems and services so they can combat terrorism, trade fraud, drug and weapon smuggling, and illegal immigration. As an Electrical Summer Intern, you will test, build, modify, prototype, repair, troubleshoot and debug various electronic and electro-mechanical equipment used in our broad array of scanning systems; you will support products in all phases of the development cycle under the direction of a mentor.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cutting-edge, cross-functional engineering team environment
  • Research various components for use in our design
  • Execute test plans and experiments using various lab equipment such as the thermal chambers and labview software
  • Document results and communicate to various stakeholders
  • Service equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices
  • Introduced to industry standards such as IPC-620A; soldering practices, NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery); the National Electric Code; IEC; and proper application of these standards
  • Create documentation packages including CAD drawings and BOM
  • Design and create prototype builds of various subsystems utilizing industry best practices

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master of Science program in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Must have completed introductory coursework in Electrical Engineering
  • During the summer of 2025 must reside within daily commuting distance of the site
  • Must be able to commit to a 10-week internship period starting in May or June 2025
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or equivalent version such as Google)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with LabView and standard test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators preferred
