The Electrical Engineering Intern position at WSP USA is a summer internship designed for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. This 12-week program offers hands-on experience in analyzing complex power and building systems, working alongside senior engineers, and contributing to real projects. Interns will gain valuable mentorship and networking opportunities while enhancing their professional skills in a collaborative environment.

  • Perform a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard engineering and design techniques under the direction and guidance of senior engineers.
  • Work with multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners.
  • Attend client meetings.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and equipment vendors and manufacturers.
  • Design electrical systems for buildings including lighting, receptacle, general, essential, and critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Select and schedule equipment.
  • Prepare calculations and specifications.
  • Understand short circuit, coordination, and arc flash calculations.
  • Perform construction administration tasks with assistance from senior staff.
  • Work alongside senior engineers to survey and evaluate existing worksite conditions.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Previous building design or construction internship experience.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
