About The Position

The Electrical Engineering Data Collection Technician supports the engineering team by performing structured, high-accuracy field data collection for power-system studies—primarily arc flash (IEEE 1584), short-circuit, and protective device coordination. This position ensures engineers receive complete, correct, and clearly organized data for modeling facilities with minimal follow-up. The role is ideal for a hands-on electrical technician or wireman who enjoys methodical field work, technical documentation, and working safely around energized equipment in commercial, healthcare, manufacturing, and government environments. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to strict safety protocols, client requirements, and company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (required); AAS in Electrical or Electromechanical Technology (preferred).
  • Experience as an electrical technician, wireman, or related role.
  • Working knowledge of switchgear, breakers, and industrial electrical components.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365, Teams, and tablet-based field forms.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under travel schedules.
  • OSHA-10 (or ability to complete within 30 days).
  • Must meet company, client, and/or regulatory compliance requirements, which may include a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), criminal background check, drug screening, or other screenings, depending on job duties or site access requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • NFPA 70E training preferred.
  • Prior field data collection experience in engineering or power systems.
  • Familiarity with power system study methodologies.
  • Experience working in industrial, commercial, or government electrical environments.
  • Experience supporting technical services, electrical testing, or construction industries.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Visit Preparation: · Review one-line diagrams, scope boundaries, and the Engineering Data Checklist. · Review Data Collection Packet (DCP) with the engineer on assigned projects and verify understanding of the scope of work. · Confirm site access, required PPE, and any permit or hot-work constraints with the PM/Engineer. · Verify calibration and readiness of test equipment, camera, tablet forms, tools, and PPE inventory.
  • Field Data Collection: · Verify and redline one-lines—trace feeders, note discrepancies, and tag undocumented gear. · Capture nameplate data (photo and typed values) for transformers, switchboards, panelboards, Motor Control Centers (MCC), large motors, generators/ATS, UPS, and VFDs. · Record protective device settings, breaker frame/rating plugs, and configuration settings. · Document conductor size, insulation type, length estimates, bus bracing, and enclosure type. · Observe and record grounding, bonding, and Surge Protective Devices (SPD) installations when visible. · Follow NFPA 70E shock and arc-flash approach boundaries; execute Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and lockout/tagout where required.
  • Post-Visit Data Handoff: · Organize photos and form data into the standard SharePoint folder structure; rename per naming conventions. · Populate the Engineering Data Package (EDP) spreadsheet and flag missing or ambiguous items within 24 hours. · Upload redlined one-lines and coordinate with the engineering team for drafting. · Attend data turnover meetings with the lead engineer to resolve open questions.
  • Continuous Improvement & Mentorship: · Suggest form and template improvements to increase data quality and efficiency. · Mentor junior technicians once proficient; share lessons learned at safety and quality meetings..
  • Additional Duties: · Perform other related duties as assigned to support business needs. · Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and contribute to team-wide learning and growth.
