About The Position

The Electrical Engineer position at SmithGroup involves performing analysis, design, and documentation of building electrical systems, including low and medium voltage power distribution and renewable energy systems. The role emphasizes innovative solutions to complex electrical systems while contributing to sustainable design initiatives. The engineer will work collaboratively within integrated architecture and engineering teams, mentoring junior staff and driving design decisions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience working as an electrical engineer designing electrical power distribution and lighting systems for new and renovated laboratories, data centers, government, higher ed, and other critical building types.
  • PE License with LEED AP and Engineering-in-Training certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office required.

Nice To Haves

  • SKM systems power analysis and Bluebeam preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of building electrical systems including low and medium voltage power distribution, site and campus destruction, standby and backup power systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and solar.
  • Independently provide the full range of electrical engineering services on complex innovative electrical systems.
  • Revise, review, and coordinate construction documents.
  • Mentor and train junior level staff.
  • Develop solutions to challenging electrical power distribution and lighting systems with integrated architecture and engineering (A/E) project design teams.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform electrical loads, short circuit analysis, generator loads and lighting calculations.
