About The Position

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Electrical Engineer will be a member of Amazon Leo's Inter-Satellite Link Avionics team, focusing on the design of the various electrical functions including analog sensor signal conditioning and processing, and overall monitoring and control across spacecraft interfaces. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience
  • Experience with analog, digital, and high-speed circuit design
  • Experience with PCB design and debugging, including microprocessors, FPGAs, power supplies, ADCs and sensors
  • Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of embedded firmware development experience
  • Experience in development and test of satellite bus systems
  • Experience with integration of systems into aerospace/avionics enclosures
  • Electronics design/qualification experience with radiation environments or radiation tolerant hardware
  • Experience with rapid iteration prototyping and joint hardware/firmware development; partnering with software engineers to bring-up and test new hardware designs
  • Experience with Mentor Xpedition or other Mentor ECAD tools
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or C/C++
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts and designs to colleagues across disciplines

Responsibilities

  • lead a variety of tasks, from board design and component selection, to layout review, board bring-up, system test and root cause analysis at the subsystem as well as system level
  • ensuring high quality and innovative designs
  • supporting other colleagues with reviewing and improving board and other electrical designs
  • work with a team of top-notch engineers and collaborate with multiple other spacecraft design and integration teams
  • tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations
  • tasks would vary between board design, layout reviews, test plan development and qualification
  • cross-functional role requiring constant interaction with multiple HW/SW design teams and end-users
