About The Position

MettleOps is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of complex electrical systems across multiple defense-focused programs. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership capability, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, high-uncertainty environments. This is a hands-on leadership role working at the tactical and operational level, with occasional engagement at the strategic level. The successful candidate will drive electrical engineering solutions from blank-sheet concept through fabrication and testing, supporting platforms ranging from wheeled and tracked land vehicles to aircraft and unmanned systems (UAS). The role reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer and MettleOps Chief Engineer and works closely with Program Management and senior engineering leadership.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional electrical engineering experience (mid to upper level)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience designing systems in constrained or contested environments
  • Strong background in system-level electrical architecture development
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
  • Comfortable leading efforts in environments with limited upfront requirements
  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance (Controlled Unclassified Information [CUI] used initially)

Nice To Haves

  • SPRDE Level I or higher
  • IPC CID or CID+
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (bonus; no sign-offs required)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) certification
  • SSBI eligibility for Secret or higher clearance (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electrical power and data architectures for complex defense systems
  • Own electrical engineering efforts from concept development through prototype fabrication and test readiness
  • Translate operational and functional requirements into executable technical designs
  • Conduct trade studies to evaluate solution space, risks, cost, and performance
  • Develop and mature solutions until they are production-ready and testable
  • Support limited customer interaction and requirements clarification
  • Mentor and collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous, high-risk, high-reward environments
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and evolving customer needs
  • Participate in occasional after-hours or weekend meetings with senior engineering leadership
