Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience.
• Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of electrical engineering experience.
• A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, including understanding of three-phase power systems.
• Knowledge of basic protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment.
• Familiarity with microprocessor-based protection and control systems with the ability to understand one-lines and control schematics.
• Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
• Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs).
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete either protection & control design or physical design on various substation projects.
• Work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client needs.
• Create/modify single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, communication diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and relay panel arrangements for the installation of new, or modifications to existing, substations.
• Perform calculations such as DC battery sizing, AC load sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and control cable sizing.
• Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials.
• Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and P&C design to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.
• Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
• Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews.
• Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and others as needed.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members.
• Prepare/create general arrangements, sections and electrical details, yard layouts, and bill of materials for the installation of new, or modifications to existing, substations.
• Perform calculations such as lightning protection, grounding analysis, and lighting plans.
