About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Senior-Level Electrical Engineer with a specialty in utilities and overhead distribution systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in our Walnut Creek or Oakland offices. This role will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally managing project electrical teams, preparing plans, designs and plan production for general electrical engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include lighting, power, and grounding plans, overhead distribution systems and pole detailing, one-line diagrams, panel and cable schedules, and different project specifications. Projects include: electrical infrastructure for ports, waterfronts, industrial, commercial, government and military facilities. You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. You will support projects both on the job site as well as in the office.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; required
• 8-15 years of related design experience; required
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months; required
• Pole detail and overhead power distribution design experience; required
• Substation and transmission power design experience; required
• Utilities experience; required
• Strong AutoCAD skills
• Proficiency in ETAP, SKM or EasyPower
• Overhead design software experience
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 70 and NESC; required
• Ability to acquire TWIC card within 6 months; required
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
• Availability and willingness to travel

Responsibilities

• Manage electrical design projects by collaborating and working with the overall MEI design Team
• Travel to site, meet with clients, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions/third party interface requirements for the project
• Review and provide oversight of design calculations, design drawings, procurement specifications, and construction specifications
• Perform electrical calculations, design drawings, and project specifications using latest engineering practices and code requirements
• Lead the design of medium/low voltage power distribution systems
• Lead the design of overhead power distribution systems
• Lead the design of grounding systems
• Lead the design of electrical power monitoring systems
• Lead selective coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies
• Prepare detailed contract documents and studies
• Perform construction administration support and inspections
• Assist in companywide QA/QC process
• Develop new clients locally/regionally

Benefits

• Base salary range: $150,000 - $190,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description
