The Electrical Engineer - Product Design role at Latham, The Pool Company focuses on supporting the design and development of automatic pool covers. The position involves improving product functionality, quality, and cost, while managing the overall controls strategy. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure that products meet design specifications and quality standards, and will be responsible for investigating innovative solutions and alternative materials.

  • Define, conduct testing and work with external labs on electrical product development to ensure the finished product meets design specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure product design and end use meet all agency requirements, such as UL, ASTM, NEC & CE.
  • Develop and evaluate new products through characterization, testing, and analysis.
  • Develop clear scope of work and technical specifications for control boards, components, programming (firmware/software), wiring, and enclosures.
  • Execute product strategy by designing simple, effective, and durable solutions and working with outside partners to achieve project scopes.
  • Manage project execution including schedule, cost, benefit delivery, and leadership updates.
  • Write clear specifications for manufacturing and supply base.
  • Assess product construction, looking for opportunities for component replacement to improve product performance and reduce cost.
  • Analyze product issues and failures with root cause analysis and propose new solutions.
  • Advise management on suitability, feasibility, profitability, and environmental impact of materials; evaluate economic viability of materials for commercial production and select the best combination of components.
  • Produce detailed technical reports and provide effective technical presentations.
  • Develop and communicate product bulletins as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years' experience working in Electrical Engineering and product design.
  • Experience working with consumer electronic interface products, PCB board layouts, component specs, firmware, and software programming.
  • Experience in testing and assessing electrical-based products, developing prototypes, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong project management and execution skills with the ability to lead and drive significant programs with large business impact.
  • Strong and effective communication skills to deliver detailed project updates and executive summaries.
  • Ability to work with customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal team members for solving manufacturing issues and the collaborative development of new products and processes.
  • Ability to interpret data and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Self-starter, willing to accept initiative and able to work independently.
  • CAD experience with SolidWorks preferred but not required.
