About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in industrial power distribution to support Plant Engineering Services in a chemical manufacturing facility. This role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient electrical power delivery across all plant systems, including high-demand process equipment, safety systems, and environmental controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • Skilled in performing engineering and design functions.
  • Skilled in estimating and scheduling engineering and design hours and assessing the progress and quality of electrical/instrumentation work.
  • Skilled in building relationships with team members and operations' customers.
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform design for electrical equipment and infrastructure including voltage drop calculations, lighting, raceway designs, MCC and substation loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for low and medium voltage equipment.
  • Ability to produce a 15kV power system single line diagram and related drawings.
  • Ability to perform calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks as well as construction material quantities.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule, and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.
  • Ability to develop design criteria and scope of work.
  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge of specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements to produce all electrical deliverables.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of programmable Logic controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital projects and plant expansions with electrical design and commissioning expertise.
  • Collaborate with discipline engineers, maintenance teams, and operations specialists to support projects.
  • Design, maintain, and optimize medium and low-voltage power distribution systems tailored to chemical processing operations.
  • Develop, review, and approve all electrical deliverables.
  • Specify electrical infrastructure including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, and related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA standards, as well as chemical industry-specific safety protocols.
  • Develop and maintain electrical documentation including single-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • Review and verify vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Contribute to establishing and revising electrical area classifications.
  • Ensure equipment meets the requirements of the hazardous area designation.
  • Plan and organize work, communicating the plan to the project leadership team and the client.
  • Validate project and construction estimates at the beginning of a project and track changes as the project progresses.
  • Produce engineering project scopes in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, project studies and estimates, change notices, and for the development of new work through proposal efforts.
  • Produce project scopes and designs utilizing principles of efficiency, optimization, and safety.
  • Produce bid packages enabling electrical/instrumentation purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
  • Produce construction specifications.
  • Produce detail design packages including calculations and sketches for materials of construction, neatly prepared and organized for checking and handoff to others.
  • Initiate timely change notices when scope change affects schedule, deliverables, or cost.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
  • Maintain project quality standards, cost discipline, and schedule adherence throughout the project.
  • Understand and utilize the project tools that are in place for project control.
  • Delegate work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience and provide support to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Utilize and follow department design and drafting standards.
  • Review and verify calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and conformance to good engineering practice.
  • Assist the engineering designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Provide leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
