About The Position

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our wind and solar collection team. In this hybrid role, you will support the power delivery team, working with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. The person in this position will also be responsible for managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet clients' needs. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability and project management expertise for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above.
  • Knowledge and experience with solar DC and AC solar collection system design.
  • Experience with power plant controllers.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with collection system studies, including ampacity, short circuit, reactive power, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonic, and transient overvoltage.
  • Experience with energy storage facilities.
  • Authoritative capabilities and experience applying industry-standard resource modeling and assessment techniques (PVsyst, Windographer, etc.).
  • Experience with statistical analysis of solar and wind data, resource and net energy production forecasts (including uncertainty/variability analysis and loss assumptions), design, site conditions, and technology suitability.
  • Experience with data collection, post-construction measurement campaigns (including power performance testing), and project contracts.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs for DC and AC collection systems and power plant controllers.
  • Projects will focus on design and analysis and will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
  • Support the growth and development of team members.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.
