About The Position

Barr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our Bismarck team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design business unit on multidisciplinary project teams by providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise for industrial processing, power, mining, and fuels facilities. Work will involve integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Tasks will include detailed design to support electrical installations in the power, mining, and hydroelectric sectors. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability and project management expertise for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 5 years of relevant experience related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and basic Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and Word.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience at a consulting engineering or industrial company.
  • Knowledge of and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, mining and minerals processing, or chemical production.
  • Background and skills related to PLC and HMI programming and commissioning.
  • Knowledge and experience related to piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Experience related to electrical installations in hazardous areas.

Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: cost estimation, preparation of specifications, wiring and schematic diagrams, and bill-of-material development.
  • Design and analysis including the preparation of plans and specifications, report development, cost estimating, and the design of power and controls from the ground up.
  • Project management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
  • Support the growth and development of team members.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.
