About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Orange office is seeking an Experienced Electrical Engineer or Analyst with 3+ ears of experience to join their MEP team. This position is in-office/in-person. Join our MEP team to support electrical engineering across large-scale data center, healthcare, and commercial projects. Your role will encompass a variety of key responsibilities, ensuring high-quality and efficient project outcomes.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of design experience in electrical engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 6 months required
  • Firm understanding of the National Electrical Code, other NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, other NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment

Nice To Haves

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM – Autodesk Revit) experience is a plus
  • Power Analyses (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, device coordination) in SKM or ETAP
  • Electrical power, lighting, and fire alarm design experience

Responsibilities

  • Active Production Role on Project Teams: Participate actively in project teams, contributing to the design and implementation of robust electrical systems for data centers, healthcare facilities, and commercial buildings.
  • Project Meetings: Engage in project meetings with internal and external clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Preparation of Project Specifications: Develop precise project specifications to guide the construction and implementation of electrical systems.
  • Electrical Construction Cost Estimates: Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical construction, ensuring budget adherence and value engineering.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Work daily with cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines, fostering innovation and integrated project delivery.
  • Coordination and Verification of As-Built Drawings: Ensure accurate coordination and verification of as-built drawings for compliance and quality assurance.
  • Quality Work for Client Retention: Perform quality work that promotes client satisfaction and retention, adhering to Kimley-Horn’s standards of excellence.
  • Equipment Power Needs Coordination: Coordinate with architects, mechanical/plumbing engineers, and other disciplines to determine equipment power needs and size electrical distribution appropriately.
  • Electrical Design Calculations: Perform electrical design calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Development of Design Documents: Responsible for creating comprehensive reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses.
