About The Position

The M TX TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. This posting seeks to fill at either the Designer II or Engineer II (T&D) position; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate. Under direct supervision of higher level professional engineers, the Designer II performs design, project engineering, project management and general engineering duties in support of the capital construction programs of Hawaiian Electric. The Engineer II performs similar functions but requires more independent judgment and experience. Both roles involve preparing plans, conducting project design studies, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • A BS degree in engineering in a discipline relevant to the Department from an accredited engineering school.
  • Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of engineering acquired through advanced college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering design, project engineering, project management and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities normally acquired through a minimum of 3 years' relevant engineering experience for Designer II and 5 years for Engineer II.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, and ability to learn additional software tools to perform work.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Hawaiian Electric's Capital and O&M budget procedures strongly preferred.
  • State of Hawaii Professional Engineer License in relevant discipline is required for Engineer II.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Conducts project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepares associated reports.
  • Prepares and manages cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications and construction contracts for projects assigned.
  • Performs project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates work by consulting engineers, evaluates proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment and makes recommendations.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
  • Understands the Company's Policies, Mission, Vision, Values, and follows the culture dimensions to ensure the success of the company.
