About The Position

AECOM is seeking an initiative-taking electrical engineer with an electrical engineering background to be based in the Denver, Colorado office to support mining projects in the planning and design phases. Job Summary/Responsibilities Technical resources may serve as technical advisor for team. Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise. Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others. Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. Provides guidance to entry level engineers. Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and designs. Proposes approach to solve problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Identifies discrepancies in results and presents alternative solutions to solve the identified discrepancies. Serve as lead electrical engineer or discipline lead on mid- to large size projects. Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision. Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works. Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings. Complete calculation packages for the sizing of electrical equipment. Develop reports in Microsoft Word to communicate the technical results of the calculations or design packages, including summaries, figures, tables, methodologies, and explanations. Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, electrical loads, equipment sizing and selection, datasheets, and general arrangements. Develop design documents including electrical equipment, material specifications, equipment specifications and vendor data requirements. Perform detailed technical bid analyses for electrical equipment and electrical systems. Review of vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards as well as project specific requirements. Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts. Ensure the required services meet project requirements on time and within budget. Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually and in a team environment. Provides project leadership in the areas of electrical engineering and design, investigations, analysis on multi-disciplinary mining projects. Coordinate and direct staff on designs, specifications, drawings, figures, reports, and calculations on multi-disciplined design efforts. Work with existing and potential clients to provide electrical engineering and design solutions on mining projects. Provides input for the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in electrical engineering.
  • PE in Colorado.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • On-site field experience in construction, commissioning, and start-ups.
  • PE in New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Nevada or ability to acquire a PE.
  • MSHA Miner training
  • Experience in processing instrumentation and controls.
  • Lead designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, construction specifications, and final working drawings.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems to coordinate with designers to produce construction-level drawings.
  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative, and people skills
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
  • Initiative-taking on assignments and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Author reports and prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references.
  • Must be resourceful, highly organized, professional with attention to detail and people.
