The estimated per hourly range for this position is $22 - 30 per hour based on experience. Join Our Team as a Electrical Engineer Intern! S&C Electric Company works to build innovative solutions with the Smart Grid as part of the electric power distribution system. We are seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer Intern who would enjoy a fast paced, dynamic team-based work environment. The Nicholas J. Conrad (NJC) Electrical & Mechanical Laboratories within S&C Electric is looking for an Electrical Engineer Intern who will participate in testing activities in the labs, help with designing and building test equipment, and work on projects for process and efficiency improvements. You can expect to have ample opportunities to demonstrate your skills within an agile and fun environment. You will be teamed with experienced Engineers to learn, collaborate, and complete projects that tackle real-world testing challenges.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program, majoring in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 0-1 years of experience configuring and using electrical and/or mechanical equipment including power supplies, controllers, software, bus work, and wiring.

Nice To Haves

  • coursework in power systems, distribution and/or transmission systems, AC machines, energy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and use data acquisition equipment, power supplies, controllers, and software for upcoming tests in the lab.
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components, bus work, and wiring with the use of hand tools (e.g. drill, screwdriver, wrench, crimper)
  • Troubleshoot and maintain the lab’s equipment
  • Assist and guide other departments working in the lab on the use of the lab’s equipment
  • Assemble custom test equipment or fixtures for upcoming tests in the lab
  • Occasionally operate energized equipment
  • Occasionally travel for training
  • Work in a team environment with engineers from throughout the company
