This is a hybrid position located in Milwaukee, WI. Komatsu Mine Air System provides air conditioning, heating, air filtration and pressurization to the operator’s cabs and other sensitive areas of mining machines. The Electrical Engineer III designs electrical systems for Mine Air Products, meeting Komatsu’s standards for safety, regulatory compliance, quality, performance, reliability, manufacturability and service.

  • Design electrical systems for Mine Air products including: circuit protection, power distribution, motor speed control, sensor integration and cable/transformer sizing.
  • Perform and document calculations and analysis related to electrical systems to support product development and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Develop PLC logic to control air conditioning units.
  • Participate in risk assessments, safety reviews, fault tree analysis and other evaluations to bring designs through a stage-gate NPD process.
  • Support strategic product planning activities and roadmaps.
  • Support product development, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with the Mine Air engineering team and other departments within Komatsu (product management, manufacturing, supply chain, etc.) to deliver cost-effective and reliable solutions.
  • Keep up to date with the latest technical knowledge related to Mine Air Engineering.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Communicate appropriately with senior leadership, internal teams and customers.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical design.
  • Previous experience with integration of PLCs, drives and wire harnesses, as well as practical build/test/troubleshoot experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficient in the use of CAD tools. AutoCAD required. SOLIDWORKS preferred.
  • LabVIEW, Siemens SIMATIC or ABB automation builder experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, UL, and ISO standards.
