About The Position

Iowa State University Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) Utility Distribution Department is seeking to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer. The position responsibilities include the following: provide engineering services and leadership for the campus high voltage electrical distribution system; design and manage electrical distribution construction projects; coordinate operation, maintenance, and expansion of existing utility distribution systems; develop standard operating procedures and design standards for the safe and reliable operation of the campus electrical distribution systems. Duties will include: analyzing and troubleshooting the electrical utility system and equipment budgeting, planning, and managing utility projects coordinating engineering tasks with other engineers and utility operations staff working with design professionals and construction contractors being a technical resource to FPM and campus. In addition, this position will be responsible for documenting distribution systems and design standards and supporting electrical utility high voltage maintenance projects and high voltage electricians. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; and the ability to organize and coordinate work within and between projects. They must have the ability to understand complex utility systems and equipment. Candidates may be hired as an Electrical Engineer III or an Electrical Engineer IV.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in an engineering design or construction related field.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution design, including medium voltage systems.
  • Experience with building electrical design and construction systems.
  • Experience with lighting systems, communications and controls, and traffic signals.
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience. State of Iowa Professional Engineering license is preferred.
