The Electrical Engineer II independently contributes to the design, development, and integration of Ideal Aerosmith’s unmanned systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs). This role requires a solid understanding of electrical system design, component selection, and system-level tradeoffs. The engineer operates with limited supervision and takes ownership of defined subsystems from concept through testing. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound engineering judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience in complex systems.
  • Ability to travel (domestic and internationally).
  • Must have valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport.
  • Due to federal contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. §1324b(a)(3).
  • Strong understanding of power distribution and grounding practices.
  • Experience with embedded electronics, avionics, or control systems.
  • Familiarity with sensors, radios, and communication protocols.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD and simulation tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system-level electrical issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical subsystems for UAVs and USVs, including power distribution, control electronics, and communication interfaces.
  • Generate detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical specifications.
  • Select electrical components considering performance, cost, availability, and environmental requirements.
  • Support system integration, ground testing, and flight testing activities.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate electrical performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve integration challenges.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Support supplier interactions related to electrical components and assemblies.
