About The Position

Performs facilities engineering work related to buildings and site development, in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, and construction administration. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
  • 4 years of experience in engineering, structural engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.   • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Prof Engineer
  • Considerable knowledge of: Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of: Construction engineering policies and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of: Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of: Facility planning, design and site development
  • Considerable knowledge of: Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Proficient skill in: Performing basic design and drafting
  • Proficient skill in: Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short- and long-term deadlines
  • Proficient skill in: Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Proficient skill in: Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
  • This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
  • Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
  • Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.
  • Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
  • Prepares and seals engineering construction documents for bidding.
  • Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests relative to facility construction.
  • Utilize project management principals in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex mechanical and/or structural engineering projects related to facility construction.
  • Coordinates phases of preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, contractors, fabricators, and local entities.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
