About The Position

AMA is currently accepting applications to meet requirements from the NASA Research Services Directorate in support of the Aircraft Engineering Branch (AEB) at the NASA Langley Research Center. AEB provides support to science research teams, providing modifications to a wide variety of aircraft to integrate airborne science instrumentation. This work requires knowledge of the aircraft systems such that modifications can be done safely, mitigating system hazards, and maintaining airworthiness while meeting the science objectives. The selected candidate will become an integral part of the AEB team working closely with the researchers and branch personnel on location at the NASA LaRC in Hampton, Virginia. Salary for this position will range from $85,000-$135,000 to be determined by education and experience relative to the required qualifications.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in capacity analysis
  • Knowledge in data acquisition systems and their integration into the overall system
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of standard CAD software systems for system design
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of personnel across domains including science, engineering, and management
  • Effective communications skills (writing and verbal) for requirements gathering, project briefings, review board presentations
  • Ability to develop and maintain project schedules
  • US Person is required for this position
  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert across aircraft systems from an electrical capacity and data acquisition perspective, including GPS, power systems, avionics, radios, navigation and tracking systems and communications data links.
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team designing the aircraft modifications for science instrument incorporation in a timely and safe manner.
  • Creation and presentation of approved manufacturing and installation drawing for the electrical components and electrical systems using industry standard software for airworthiness and engineering reviews.
  • Interface with customers to derive and track overall requirements for the customized system, providing written and verbal briefings on project status.
  • Opportunities to serve as Mission Lead Engineer regarding aircraft modifications and/or instrument integration, from installation to removal of hardware.
  • Travel in support of flight missions up to three times a year up to three weeks at a time in support of the NASA research flight mission.
