About The Position

The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Requirements

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
  • Displays competence and will with a good attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Co-ops will complete 3 rotations for a 1.5-year commitment. The co-op will need to still be enrolled in school during these semesters to be eligible.
  • Ability to work 40-hour work weeks during rotation.
  • Willingness and ability to commit to a minimum of 3 rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.
  • You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.
  • You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and community service /volunteer initiatives.
  • You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to a world-class program community.
  • Finally, our rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities.
  • Provide support to maintenance and reliability team with process improvement projects.
  • Assist with the design, development, and testing of new or modified equipment, components, and systems.
  • Support data collection and analysis for root cause investigations, failure analysis, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in updating and creating engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety within manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in equipment installations, program upgrades, commissioning activities, or process trials under guidance from engineers.
  • Utilize CAD software to create or revise drawings, layouts, or models as needed for project work.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including maintenance, production, quality, and safety to drive project success.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts related to engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned.
