About Electrified Thermal Solutions Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Electrified Thermal Solutions has a simple and massive goal: to electrify industry. To do this, we are building the Joule Hive™ thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive™ at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln. About the Role: As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will join our engineering team and play a pivotal role in scaling up our 1 MW Commercial Demonstration Product System to a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) 5 MW capacity. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in renewable energy technology. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that will shape the future of renewable energy technology. You will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer.

  • Create a specialized sizing tool to accurately gauge the requirements of the Joule Hive Thermal Battery (JHTB) at 5 MW capacity and to estimate dimensions, thermal storage capacity, and quantity of bricks needed.
  • Support optimization of thermal energy storage utilization to enhance system efficiency and performance.
  • Development of a comprehensive Computer-Aided Design (CAD) framework for the 5 MW system, including development of models that encapsulate the system's architecture, components, and subsystems.
  • Ensure seamless coordination among various components and subsystems through the CAD framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize various subsystems, components, and processes within the 5 MW system.
  • Maintain detailed documentation throughout the project such as design specifications, CAD models, simulation results, and test reports.
  • Provide progress updates and technical reports to project stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and mitigation strategies.
  • Currently pursuing a B.S./M.S. in Electrical Engineering and have successfully completed coursework in: --> Circuit theory 1 & 2. --> Signal processing. --> Advanced control systems --> Capstone project or any research directed course work
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as Onshape or SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Python is a plus.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems or thermal energy storage is a plus.
