This position is responsible for leading assigned designs in the engineering department utilizing established modeling and design standards. The Design Engineer 5 will support design and development of engineering packages based on customer and OEM requirements for production, retrofit applications and product development.

  • Lead assigned design tasks including basic aircraft electrical design, wiring installations, wiring diagrams, cable assemblies/harnesses, detailed assemblies and internal specifications.
  • Work under the direction of an engineering manager to maintain or modify basic electronic/electrical system/subsystems based on defined requirements using approved processes and tools.
  • Participate in teams to support the development of designs and document design implementation.
  • Obtain, interpret, and analyze OEM airplane install drawings using approved processes and tools.
  • Provide technical, design and informational support for airplane modifications, manufacturing support, and in-service issues.
  • Troubleshoot basic electronic/electrical system/subsystems problems.
  • Support engineering department goals and initiatives and coordinate with other departments as necessary.
  • Utilize internal drawing/document standards per customer or regulatory agency requirements.
  • Perform engineering design checks and sign documents, providing technical support for complex production or in-service issues.
  • Perform analysis of engineering designs including Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), System Safety Assessment (SSA), and Transverse Separation Analysis (TVSA).
  • Define and oversee Design Validation testing including Engineering Functional Testing and EMI Ground/Flight Testing.
  • Perform engineering design/analysis with minimum technical guidance and provide junior level mentoring.
  • Act as design authority for design tasks and define engineer tasks for PE/functional manager.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft electrical systems and design standards.
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) and System Safety Assessment (SSA).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the aerospace industry.
  • Previous experience in a lead engineering role.
