Electrical Engineer 3

United Launch Alliance

About The Position

This position is a split between a Tiger (directly supporting launches) and Electrical Design Engineer within the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) organization. The role is located in Cape Canaveral and will involve technical design and development, Tiger support, test support, installation support, interfacing- and coordinating- with various teams, and more. Minor travel (<10%) is anticipated for this role. The workload split of Tiger vs. design is planned to be 50:50, but is subject to change as the role develops. This position is resident to Cape Canaveral. Tiger: There is an EGSE Tiger certification process that individually varies by training content and duration. Tigers support launches directly (on console, walkdowns, presentations, issue resolution…) and represents the EGSE team during activities such as launch processing, validation, and operational support. This role supports all EGSE-relevant aspects of a mission. Tasks include performing walkdowns, building and presenting EGSE content in relevant forums, possible off-shift work (typically driven by a specific issue or launch schedule), interfacing with the customer, reporting status to leader, reviewing and closing mission-specific issues, and identifying areas of improvement and looking for efficiencies to be gained. Direct support launching Atlas and Vulcan vehicles is also part of this role. Engineering: The candidate will have a diverse taskset spanning the entire EGSE system, supporting launch operations, leading stability improvement efforts, and identifying maintenance issues. Examples of engineering duties include implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems and may include interfacing with counterparts in procurement, logistics, testing, other engineering functions, and operations as needed. Tasks include hardware selection, reviewing and editing complex engineering drawings, parts lists, test procedures and schematics, wire list creation, circuit design, basic cable design/layout, and harness design/modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field from an ABET-accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
  • Examples include NX, Teamcenter, and Zuken - or equivalent programs
  • Ability to perform walkdowns and interface with customers
  • General understanding of electrical component selection and implementation
  • Understanding circuit level testing and troubleshooting
  • Personal involvement with implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems/circuits
  • Experience reviewing, editing, and providing feedback on engineering drawings, parts lists, test procedures, and schematics
  • Ability to integrate COTS hardware into system level designs
  • Technical knowledge of grounding/bonding principles and practices
  • Understanding of basic cable/electrical/harness design, layout, modeling, and schematics
