About The Position

This position is based in either Charlotte or Raleigh, NC, with frequent collaboration with our established engineering group in Charlotte. The role involves active participation in a wide range of engineering services including technical performance, training, building electrical systems, equipment and control applications, and specification writing. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related accredited program.
  • 2–4 years of experience in electrical design for commercial or industrial building systems.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for electrical system design and documentation.
  • Experience performing electrical design calculations and developing one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and system layouts.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution, lighting systems, emergency power, and low-voltage infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to project teams and stakeholders.
  • OSHA 10 Certification or ability to obtain.
  • Strong interest in technical growth and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in design-build, contractor-led, or construction-integrated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical system design and establish criteria for power distribution, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems for commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Generate detailed electrical construction and shop drawings utilizing Autodesk software.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, and select appropriate equipment.
  • Design normal and emergency power systems, lighting layouts, lighting controls, and life safety systems.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities in existing electrical designs while maintaining performance and code compliance.
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements, including NEC and local AHJ requirements.
  • Coordinate electrical design requirements for LEED projects, including energy performance documentation and lighting power density compliance.
  • Support commissioning activities, functional testing, and development of electrical system narratives and control sequences.
  • Coordinate across disciplines to support engineering, construction, service, and controls teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and manage electrical design deliverables from concept through construction documentation in accordance with project schedules and requirements established by Project Managers.
  • Collaborate with field teams to resolve constructability issues, RFIs, and design clarifications during construction.
  • Manage distribution and version control of electrical models, drawings, and documentation.
  • Participate in project planning meetings, design reviews, and coordination meetings to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Stay current with emerging electrical technologies, codes, and industry best practices for potential implementation.
