About The Position

We're looking for an Electrical Design Intern to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our electrical design engineers provide electrical power system design, application, and technical expertise in areas such as power system protection and controls, power system studies, power quality analysis, installation, startup, maintenance, and repair. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity of electrical systems, wiring, and all necessary equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, business acumen, management ability
  • Employs professional and effective communication in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manages time efficiently with the ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Self-driven and exhibits the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work remotely
  • 10-15% travel required
  • Valid Driver's license with clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience or an internship in electrical engineering within the power industry is preferred, or completion of coursework in power systems or related subjects.
  • Software experience preferred but not required:
  • Experience with SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, AutoCAD, and/or other electrical modeling tools

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering design and analysis for electrical power systems. Examples of possible project duties include:
  • Create written specifications for electrical and substation equipment such as motor control centers, switchboards, switchgear, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis.
  • Generate drawing packages and installation plans for electrical and substation equipment upgrades including protective relay replacements.
  • Provide design of control circuits for circuit breakers, transformers, and other substation equipment.
  • Develop relay settings for both electromechanical and modern electronic relays.
  • Provide review of existing customer power systems and provide recommendations for improvement, upgrade, and/or expansion.
  • Provide technical data to field services teams, occasionally assisting field services teams in the field.
  • Must understand electrical system hazards and be able and willing to work safely around electrical equipment.
