About The Position

Electrical Design Engineers at Bright Machines design the electrical backbone of our automation systems—owning everything from concept to deployment. This includes developing robust, scalable designs that power our robotics platforms and enable reliable, high-performance systems in the real world. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with mechanical, systems, vision, robotics, and software engineers to bring complex machines to life. This is deeply collaborative, fast-paced work where design decisions have immediate, tangible impact on how our systems perform on the factory floor. We move quickly, iterate often, and expect engineers to take ownership. If you’re driven to build, solve hard problems, and push the boundaries of modern manufacturing, you’ll fit right in.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Hands-on engineer with strong technical depth, a systems mindset, and a track record of execution
  • Collaborative, process-oriented, and self-driven, with a continuous learning mindset
  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience, ideally with hands-on exposure to automation and lean engineering environments
  • Ability to demonstrate relevant past experience through projects and delivered systems
  • Experience designing machine electrical systems using tools such as SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD, or equivalent
  • Proficient in designing AC/DC systems and control cabinets, including component selection and full system integration
  • Experience designing functional safety systems and circuits for automation applications
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial automation components, including motion drives, sensors, barcode readers, PLCs, VFDs, servos, and robots
  • Solid understanding of digital and analog I/O, as well as basic industrial communication protocols
  • Ability to work with third-party vendors to define requirements and design subsystems that meet Bright Machines standards
  • Experience building, maintaining, and releasing product BOMs for production
  • Highly collaborative with strong communication skills; able to partner effectively with suppliers, system architects, design engineers, and technical program managers
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and translate requirements into practical, cost-effective automation solutions
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to design against PFMEA-identified failure modes and ensure systems meet performance and reliability requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with vision systems.
  • Experience working with industrial robots.
  • Technical Sales or Quoting experience responding to RFQs and SOWs

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams to define system requirements and specifications.
  • Integrate BM various hardware and software components into cohesive and functional systems.
  • Create PFMEA, process flow and value stream maps (where required) and work with the design team to resolve all failure mode points within the design
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure system functionality and reliability.
  • Ensure through each phase gate that all design metrics are being challenged and met
  • Clearly define solution requirements, own ‘the product’ of the overall automation solution (and sub systems), and drive it to success through the entire project lifecycle in partnership with program management and engineering
  • Electrical requirements, design, drawings and block diagrams.
  • Travel up to 10%, primarily domestically
