About The Position

The Electrical Design Engineer I is an entry-level role responsible for assisting in the design and development of electrical systems for buildings, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems. Working as part of the firm’s electrical engineering department, this role supports senior engineers in producing accurate, code-compliant construction documents and technical drawings. The position provides exposure to multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring electrical designs integrate seamlessly with architectural, mechanical, and structural requirements while meeting project deadlines and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar platforms).
  • Basic understanding of building electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, and low-voltage.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards (e.g., National Electrical Code, NFPA, IES, IEEE).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines in a project team setting.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply electrical design concepts in a professional environment.

  • Internship, co-op, or project-based experience in building electrical design preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing electrical design plans (power, lighting, and low-voltage systems) for commercial, residential, and mixed-use buildings.
  • Develop CAD/Revit drawings and technical documentation for electrical construction plans in compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Support senior engineers in performing load calculations, lighting photometric studies, panel schedules, and system layouts.
  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, and project managers to ensure electrical systems are fully integrated into overall building designs.
  • Review and apply national, state, and local codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IES standards) to electrical system design.
  • Participate in design and coordination meetings to resolve system conflicts and support efficient project delivery.
  • Contribute to permit submittals and assist with addressing plan review comments.
  • Provide construction support by responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submittals, and participating in site visits to verify design intent.
  • Maintain organized project files, electrical calculations, and compliance documentation.
  • Support senior engineers with troubleshooting and refining designs during both the design and construction phases.
