About The Position

The Electrical Controls Technician is responsible for directing electrical troubleshooting related to programmable controllers, HMIs, safety devices and other higher level electrical devices on their respective shift. This includes accountability for the safety of all maintenance personnel related to the Arc Flash/Electrical Safety Program and for troubleshooting, replacement, and installation of electrical safety devices. This position is responsible for assisting or leading projects related to electrical devices.

Requirements

  • Be able to read and understand the various schematics and electrical prints for the equipment in the plant
  • Be proficient with utilizing a computer, including Microsoft Office, SAP, and Prometheus
  • Be able to access and utilize the software associated with the various VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware, and HMIs utilized throughout the plant
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills: written, oral, and electronic
  • Be able to operate electrical troubleshooting equipment, such as a multimeter, megger, oscilloscope, current probe, and computer
  • Be able to understand and modify equipment programs written for PLCs, VFDs, safety controllers, etc.
  • Be able operate basic shop equipment, such as a lathe, milling machine, and drill press
  • Be able to use common hand tools
  • Education: A technical education with a specialization in electronics is preferred.
  • Equivalency: A maintenance background with demonstrated proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, which involves multiple types of automation related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Safety of all shift maintenance personnel regarding electrical issues
  • Lead troubleshooter for higher level electrical/automation issues on their respective shift
  • Perform training for personnel on their respective shift on the various electrical/automation systems throughout the plant
  • Support, provide training, and conduct audits for the plant’s Lockout/Tagout program
  • Support, provide training, and conduct audits for the plant’s arc flash program
  • Responsible for training other Maintenance technicians on the required electrical proficiencies
  • Make PLC, VFD, HMI etc. program and wiring modifications as required
  • Assist Engineering in keeping documentation and drawings up to date by reporting changes
  • Continue education, both on-site and off-site on equipment or topics relevant to the plant
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives, countermeasures, and kaizen events
  • Perform other related maintenance duties including completion of PMs and work orders
