About The Position

Owens Corning is investing in excess of $200 million to transform our Kansas City Fiberglass Insulation Plant—adding jobs, expanding capabilities, and shaping the future of manufacturing at a facility that has been a cornerstone of building products production for 80 years. We’re looking for an Electrical Controls Engineer who thrives on challenges, inspires teams, and delivers results that matter. Lead a team of union electricians and controls professionals to install and maintain the electrical and controls systems at the Owens corning Kansas City manufacturing site. This position is responsible for driving strategy around electrical preventive maintenance, controls systems LCM, and training technicians. This role is responsible for working with corporate teams, and external vendors.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Electrical Reliability Maintenance.
  • Experience in leading, assessing, and developing talent to deliver results
  • Experience leading / supervising employees in a unionized facility
  • Experience with predictive maintenance methods (vibration analysis, lubrication, infrared, ultrasonic measurement, standard work analysis)
  • CMMS (SAP Preferred) – experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Root Cause Analysis & Process Improvements Programs
  • Ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time
  • Ability to lead, direct, and train unionized hourly employees to develop talent
  • Ability to create and drive change and effectively communicate to all levels in the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate change and standards, as well as respond to feedback

  • Candidates must be able to meet the physical and environmental requirements of working in a manufacturing setting at Owens Corning. This includes supporting a 24/7, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment in a non-climate-controlled facility. Essential physical capabilities include but aren’t limited to the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, maneuver up and down stairs, and perform continuous standing, lifting, bending, and other physically demanding tasks in environments with dust, dirt, or particulate matter.

Responsibilities

  • Live the OC Safety Stand and adhere to Employee Safety Responsibilities
  • Build and foster an “incident-free” safety culture among all employees
  • Utilize technical knowledge to provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors
  • Ensure all practices and procedures within their control are safe, environmentally compliant, and permit compliant
  • Educate team members on safe operations, ARC Flash NFPA 70 standards, and lead team to work safely
  • Perform reporting and investigation of all safety incidents, driving to root cause and permanent resolution. Lead notification and communication process to key parties, including but not limited to, plant leadership, Axiom (TeleDoc service) and other key involved parties
  • Act as the Incident Commander in all emergency situations which includes the responsibility of executing on emergency response procedures
  • Works with Safety and Environmental teams to maintain and validate control reliable safety systems in the manufacturing process.
  • Partners with safety to ensure proper electrical PPE is issued, inspected, calibrated at required intervals.
  • Provides leadership and project management to improve plant efficiency, equipment uptime, and line utilization at the Kansas City plant.
  • Apply Root Cause Analysis techniques to resolve process issues, enhance equipment reliability, improve process capability, and ensure superior product quality.
  • Develop and recommend action plans to reduce equipment failures related to electrical and control systems.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with equipment suppliers to address and resolve electrical and controls-related concerns.
  • Lead commissioning activities during plant startups, including preparation of all required documentation and validation procedures.
  • Execute improvement projects using sound engineering principles, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Technical knowledge in electrical power distribution, frequency drive systems, instrumentation systems, motors and motor control systems, electrical troubleshooting, data acquisition, etc.
  • Works with teams to provide budget to Maintenance Leader for annual LCM workstreams.
  • Works with plant leadership teams to develop annual Capital Plans and Long Range Plans
  • Controls Systems and Sensors, Motion Controls, Network Communications, Scada Systems, and Robotics maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Power systems infrastructure maintenance and troubleshooting, electrical Systems Knowledge, and compliance
  • Rockwell Automation Software and Allen Bradley Hardware, Manufacturing Networking (Ethernet IP, ControlNet, DH+), Fanuc Robots, Ignition SCADA systems, MES, 12KV Power Systems, 480VAC Power Systems, 120VAC Utility and Control Systems, 24VdC Controls Systems, CMMS Systems, Chronos, Office Suite, and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Educate and train employees on manufacturing processes and process control procedures to ensure operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with operators to develop and implement accurate, effective Operator Control Plans.
  • Partner with plant Technical Leaders to design and maintain process controls that are precise, reliable, and user-friendly.
  • Provide expert technical support to operating and maintenance teams for troubleshooting and diagnosing PLC, HMI, and Electrical Systems related issues.
  • Lead cost-saving initiatives focused on waste reduction, productivity improvements, and process optimization through close collaboration with maintenance and operations teams.
  • Support breakdown analysis and execute corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve equipment reliability.
  • Identify and capture opportunities for enhanced reliability performance and cost efficiency across electrical and control systems.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor automation strategies and system architecture for the facility, ensuring compliance with Owens Corning standards and reviewing designs for accuracy and alignment with strategic objectives.
